The occupants of an inner-city unit have had a nasty wake-up call after allegedly waking in the middle of the night to the sight of strangers wielding a pistol and a glass bottle in their home.

In a statement on Thursday, NSW Police said officers had been called to a unit on Wellington St, Waterloo in the early hours of the previous morning, following reports a 22-year-old man and 20-year-old woman were allegedly woken by intruders they did not know.

Police said the pair had been “confronted” by a man holding a pistol and a woman wielding a glass bottle.

“Following a brief conversation, the man holding the pistol and the woman in company with him left the scene on foot,” police alleged.

Police said no one was injured.

A short time after being called to the scene at 2.45am on Wednesday, police spotted a pair alleged to be the intruders on Pitt St.

While officers arrested a 19-year-old woman, Tarhnay Haines, they say the alleged male offender ran away.

They did not catch up with the man, 18, until about 7.45pm that night, when he was arrested at a unit on the same street.

“Police will allege that a replica pistol was located in the vicinity,” the statement said.

Police took Haines to Mascot Police Station, where they charged her with aggravated break and enter and committing a serious indictable offence, and stalking or intimidation.

She faced the Downing Centre Local Court on Wednesday, when she was remanded in custody to reappear on November 14.

The 18-year-old man has been charged with the same offences, as well as possessing an unauthorised firearm and acquiring a firearm while subject to prohibition order.

He was refused bail and is set to face Downing Centre Local Court later on Thursday.
