TRAMS will soon be whizzing up and down the Sydney light rail line.
But don’t get too excited, it’s only for testing.
Ninety seven per cent of the track has now been installed and from this Saturday workers will begin installing the overhead wires along Wansey Rd and on High St to the Randwick terminus near Avoca St.
This is the first step of the testing and commissioning phase.
Twelve trams are now based at the Randwick Stabling Yard, which has been completed, and residents will soon see testing at night extend to Wansey Rd.
A Transport for NSW spokesman warned members of the public to take care around the newly installed wires and to treat them as live.
There has been progress building the Wansey Rd and Royal Randwick stops with the steel structure and windbreaks now installed.
Landscaping work has also been finished along the Australian Turf Club fence line.
Workers took advantage of the long weekend to make progress on the light rail in the CBD.
Work was done on the track in Market St, Bathurst St and George St.
There have been numerous delays to the light rail project with the completion date now pushed back until at least 2020.
