SES volunteers have received more than 400 requests for assistance across Sydney and the Blue Mountains in the past two days as heavy rain and strong winds have damaged roofs and toppled trees.
In Maroubra, the SES Randwick Unit had to clear a large tree which fell across a street blocking traffic, while in Elizabeth Bay the City of Sydney unit responded to a collapsed ceiling today.
NSW SES public affairs office Ilana Pender-Rose said the Randwick unit responded to 10 requests for assistance today and yesterday, mainly leaking roofs and fallen trees, while the city unit had 11 requests for help relating to damaged roofs and trees down at Surry Hills and Redfern.
There had been more than 400 requests for help across Sydney and the Blue Mountains and more than 680 across the state.
The Bureau of Meteorology has forecast more rain tomorrow. The NSW SES is asking the community to stay safe.
“Keep clear of creeks and storm drains,” NSW SES deputy metro zone commander Allison Flaxman said.
“Never drive, walk or ride through floodwater and watch out for fallen trees and debris while you’re on the road.”
The NSW SES has 9500 volunteers who partner with their communities prior to and during emergencies.
