The former mayor of Randwick Council was taken to hospital with chest pains midway through the monthly council meeting.
Greens councillor Lindsay Shurey was taken to hospital by ambulance late on Tuesday night (May 25) during council’s ordinary meeting at Randwick Town Hall.
She was suffering chest pains toward the end of the meeting and was assisted by staff and councillors shortly after 10pm.
The meeting was paused for a short period and an ambulance was called before Cr Shurey was taken to hospital as a precaution.
Cr Shurey told the Southern Courier she returned home early on Wednesday morning and was feeling much better.
She thanked the “fabulous” hospital staff and added council staff and her fellow councillors were “amazing” bringing her water and looking after her in the council chambers.
“The ambulance (staff) said their advice was to go to hospital if you have chest pain. So I reluctantly did.”
Cr Shurey served as mayor of Randwick Council for one year, between 2017 and 2018, and she was first elected to council in 2012.
She was just the second female mayor in the council’s 160-year history when she took into the top job.
