A proposed health facility and apartment block opposite Sydney Children’s Hospital has been knocked back by the Randwick Local Planning Panel.
The proposal was seeking a five-storey building to be erected at 10 Blenheim St in Randwick featuring health-related services on the ground floor and four levels of apartments.
However, the estimated $3.8 million project was refused by the Randwick Local Planning Panel last week.
“The size and scale of the development does not contribute to the desired future character of the area,” the decision read.
“The limited floor-to-floor heights will make it difficult to achieve the minimum 2700mm floor-to-ceiling height requirements … without exceeding the maximum permitted building height of 15m.”
Other issues raised in the decision included a lack of carparking spaces and open space.
The development application, lodged last year, proposed a ground floor with waiting rooms and consultation rooms and four upper levels with 17 apartments.
It also proposed demolition of the existing apartment building which houses six apartments.
The site is located opposite where Sydney Children’s Hospital is set to undergo a big redevelopment. It is also a stone’s throw from the existing children’s hospital.
