COOGEE White Tigers have joined forces with one of the giants of European football in a bid to discover the next Socceroo.

Those deemed to have something special will then be invited to travel to Glasgow to train with the club’s academy and get a taste of European football.

Raffaele Del Vecchio, Coogee’s president, forged links with Celtic after contacting one of the club’s officials on LinkedIn.

“It is a real honour to be associated with Celtic,” he said. “There are lots of promising players in Australia but only a few get spotted early on and make it. This partnership will provide another pathway for local footballers to progress to the professional game.”

He said the club would organise for Celtic coaches to visit Coogee to run sessions and scout out talented players. “We will use the techniques we learn from the coaches to train the Celtic way,” he added.

Del Vecchio will also report back to Glasgow and send videos of any players he feels could be of interest.

“Coogee is a very ambitious and progressive club,” Celtic Academy manager Chris Hendry said. “We are looking forward to a long and prosperous partnership with them.”
