DACEYVILLE could be transformed into a major sporting precinct under newly released plans.
Some of the country’s biggest sporting institutions are going head to head for permission to transform Astrolabe Park.
The first proposal, backed by Cricket NSW, AFL NSW and UNSW would transform the space into the new administrative and training base for the Sydney Sixers, Cricket NSW, the Sydney Swans and Swans AFLW.
The plans include a cricket oval and pavilion, an AFL field and pavilion, administration buildings, indoor training and rehabilitation facilities and a cafe. There would also be a playground, outdoor cricket nets, a walking/cycling track and parking facilities. It would also be home to UNSW’s cricket and AFL clubs.
The sports organisations said the redevelopment of Allianz Stadium would require them to move into Daceyville from April 2019.
The second proposal comes from the Sydney International Beach Volleyball Centre Consortium.
Their planned “sport and entertainment complex” would consist of a 6500-seat stadium with a retractable roof to be used for volleyball, other sports, concerts, international conferences and functions. There would also be accommodation on-site, a restaurant/cafe hub, forecourt plaza for community events and outdoor cinema and a lagoon with more cafes and restaurants.
Last month the Southern Courier revealed plans for a Waratahs’ world-class performance centre at David Phillips Sports Complex next door.
Bayside Council will discuss the proposals on Wednesday.
