Motorists have been given more reason to consider buying an electric car after more charging stations were installed in the eastern suburbs.
Randwick, Waverley and Woollahra councils have partnered with charging provider Jet Charge to install the stations encouraging electric vehicle uptake and reduce carbon emissions.
The stations installed in the Randwick area are at 97 Brook St in Coogee, Randwick Community Centre at 27 Munda St, and the Silver Street carpark at Randwick.
Electric vehicle owners use a phone app to book and pay for using the stations.
Randwick Mayor Kathy Nielson said the councils wanted to help the environment for future generations.
Charging costs between 10-25c/kWh, depending on time of day.
Jet Charge says charging from the stations should be cheaper than charging from home.
In addition to those in the Randwick area, stations have been installed at Queen Elizabeth Drive, Bondi Beach and Kiaora Place Shopping Centre at Double Bay.
Des Renford Aquatic Centre is expected to gain a station in July.
There were 1336 electric vehicles purchased in Australia in 2018, according to the vehicle registration reporting service VFACTS.
