An argument between two workers resulted in one man being repeatedly stabbed.

Police were called to the Meriton worksite in Coward St, Mascot, around 11am on Monday morning.

A spokeswoman for Meriton said there had been an “altercation between two labourers” resulting in one of the labourers being stabbed repeatedly in the leg.

A paramedic at the scene said the man also suffered stab wounds to his legs, chest and stomach.

The 25-year-old was taken to Royal Prince Alfred Hospital. He is said to be in a non life-threatening condition.

In a statement shortly after 2pm police said a 28-year-old man is “currently assisting police with inquiries”.

Less than 20 minutes later a spokesman said a man is “now in custody”.

Work was back underway on site at 1.30pm, with crew members pouring cement and patrolling the area as if nothing had occurred.

Police remain on the scene at Coward St, where workers are building a Meriton unit block dubbed ‘Unity’.

The worksite is situated within a precinct of new high rise apartment buildings springing up around Mascot train station.

It is understood a CFMEU representative arrived on site soon after the incident to brief members.

It is the latest in a string of incidents at work sites across Sydney in recent weeks.

Earlier this month a father and son were stabbed by Vladimir Kondakov at a work site in St Peters.

Property developer Albert Metledge, 76, was killed and his son Antony, 33, is still recovering from his injuries.

Kondakov was found dead days later.

Last week a man was alleged to have threatened workers at a Marrickville work site with a replica sniper rifle. The matter is still before the courts.

The site of today’s incident is a proposed 14-storey, 305 unit development by the construction arm of Harry Triguboff’s Meriton.

The project was given the go-ahead in June by the Sydney East Planning Panel.

Police said in a statement shortly after 2pm: “A man has been stabbed at a construction site in Mascot today.

“Emergency services were called to the location on Coward Street just after 11am (Monday 18 November 2019), after reports a man had been injured.

“Officers from South Sydney Police Area Command and NSW Ambulance paramedics attended, where they found a 25-year-old man suffering multiple stab wounds to his leg.

“He was treated at the scene for non-life-threatening injuries and was transported to Royal Prince Alfred Hospital in a stable condition.”
