Malabar fire: Man in his 50s dead after Wyee Place unit blaze

A man in his 50s has died shortly after being dragged from a burning unit in Sydney’s south.

A man has died after a horror unit fire in Sydney’s south this morning.

Police confirmed the man, believed to be in his 50, died shortly after being pulled from the unit in Wyee Pl, Malabar.

The man has yet to be formally identified

Emergency services were called to the scene at about 10am.

“A crime scene was established and will be forensically examined,” a police spokesman said.

“Officers from Eastern Beaches Police Area Command will investigate the circumstances surrounding the cause of the fire and a brief will be prepared for the information of the coroner.”

NSW Fire and Rescue said crews arrived at the property with the ground floor alight with smoke rising from the unit.

More than 20 firefighters worked to extinguish the blaze.

Police are investigating the cause of the fire and are yet to rule out if it was deliberately lit.
