Little Bay restaurant tops poll for southeast’s best pizza

The Southern Courier asked its readers to vote for their favourite pizza joint in the southeast, and Site Pizza in Little Bay had a runaway win.

We asked our readers to vote for their best-loved pizza place in the southeast, and Site Pizza Bar in Little Bay won 64 per cent of the votes in a landslide victory.

Owner Glen Mezei said it was “nice to be recognised” by the community, and gave credit to his team including his nephew and restaurant manager Keagan Cohen, head pizzaiolo (pizza maker) Simone Filippelli and head chef Ponce Espinosa.

“I’m only one person and can’t do it on my own. It’s a team effort, and of course that includes our unbelievable clientele that keep coming back,” Mr Mezei said.

While the Gamberi pizza with fresh prawns is Mr Mezei’s personal favourite pizza, he said the Suprema and Out of Site pizzas were the most popular with diners.

Mr Mezei said their consistent high-quality food and “very affordable” prices have kept people coming back to the family restaurant.

But Site Pizza Bar isn’t afraid to change things up from time to time, introducing weekly open mic nights on Wednesdays and Sunday lunch music sessions.

“We are more than just pizza … We’ve just grown and grown,” Mr Mezei said.

The Southern Courier ’s poll isn’t Site Pizza Bar’s first taste of success, as Menulog awarded them Best Pizza in the eastern suburbs in 2017.

This achievement and high demand from customers has prompted Mr Mezei to consider expanding, with a new restaurant possibly on the cards.

“We are in the process of looking for a place for our second store in the Maroubra area so we can service more of southeast Sydney. Keep an eye out,” he said.
