An ambitious plan to build hundreds of homes over two massive residential and commercial high-rise towers has been revealed for a busy main street in Sydney’s south east.
Developer, Memduh Cihan, submitted plans for the 11-storey high rise commercial and residential tower at 17-35 King Street, Rockdale, to Bayside Council on January 17.
The $37 million development earmarks the construction of two 11-storey buildings including more than 1200sq m of commercial space, as well as 138 apartments ranging from one-bed to three-bed homes.
A planner for the proposal said the high-rise tower would be built within the Rockdale Town Centre and approximately 400m from Rockdale Station and Bus Interchange.
The 200sq m site is currently made up of a series of townhouses and low-rise commercial buildings
“The portion of the Rockdale town centre to the east of the railway line is undergoing large scale redevelopment,” the planner said.
“Outdated and fragmented single retail and low density properties are in the process of being redeveloped for multistorey mixed retail, commercial and residential purposes.
“A number of developments in the surrounding area have recently been completed and several more are under construction.”
The applicant said the proposed mixed-use towers would “positively contribute” to housing diversity and the need for commercial space in the city’s south east.
