Police have released CCTV footage of a suspect as they hunt two men behind a late-night eastern suburbs attack, which left a person in hospital.
The incident unfolded in Matraville last Sunday night, when officers were called to a home on Jersey St, following reports of a break and enter.
They were told a 65-year-old woman had been approached by two males as they broke into the home.
Police allege one of these men then assaulted an occupant — a 70-year-old man, injuring his head and hands.
Police said the men eventually stole keys from the home and drove away in a blue Subaru XV.
NSW Ambulance paramedics treated the elderly man at the scene before taking him to Prince of Wales Hospital in a stable condition.
Officers have since found the car in the western Sydney suburb of Hebersham, where it was located and seized for forensic examination on Tuesday.
Investigators have now released CCTV footage from the home, including an image of a man they believe could help with the investigation.
Police describe the man as being of Aboriginal/Torres Strait Islander appearance and in his early 20s.
He was seen wearing a black jumper and pants in the video.
Anyone who recognises the man, or has any information regarding the incident, is urged to contact Crime Stoppers on 1800 333 000 or through https://nsw.crimestoppers.com.au.
