Dive Hotel Coogee: Plans to demolish hotel, build serviced units
Major construction works in one of Sydney’s most popular beach suburbs are proposed with a hotel set to make way for a five-storey new build.

A boutique hotel in Coogee could be knocked down under plans to redevelop the site into serviced apartments overlooking the beach.
The two-storey Dive Hotel enjoys prime views over Coogee Bay on Arden St.
A development application was lodged with Randwick Council last month to knock down the hotel and create a new, five-storey building with 20 serviced apartments.
“The proposal is for the demolition of an outdated building containing tourist accommodation and replacement with a (new building) containing retail, tourist and residential accommodation,” the plans state.
The proposed building would include retail premises on the ground floor, 20 serviced apartments on levels one, two and three and two two-bedroom units on level four.
The proposal would require excavation of the land underneath the existing hotel, about 6m deep, to make room for the new building.
“Excavation into the footpath in front of the site is also necessary to facilitate vehicle access into the site,” the proposal reads.
The development application stated the proposed building would “fit comfortably within the established context of nearby three and four-storey residential developments”.
The estimated cost is $6 million and the new building is proposed to stand 11m tall.
The hotel is located at 234 Arden St between the Crowne Plaza and Coogee Bay Hotel.
Real estate records show the hotel was sold in May 2019.
The development application is currently being reviewed by Randwick Council.
