Charlotte Mooney is the first baby born this decade at Randwick’s Royal Hospital for Women after quite literally arriving with a bang.
Parents Tiffany Beck and Peter Mooney, from Maroubra, were at a friend’s house enjoying the Coogee fireworks when Ms Beck started having contractions.
“I was out at dinner on New Year’s Eve and started getting some contractions, before we went home about 11pm.”
Her and her partner made the trip to the hospital early the following morning at 4am and Charlotte was born at 8.23am, weighing 3.3kg.
“I am pretty ecstatic and pretty excited she’s a girl,” Ms Beck, 31, said.
“We didn’t learn the gender until she was born. I was convinced I was going to have a boy.”
She said they had decided on the name Charlotte because they both loved old English names, with Oliver being the alternative if their firstborn was a boy.
Charlotte came six days later than her due date, her mum said, and she shared the same birthday as Ms Beck’s grandfather.
The hospital delivered five babies on New Year’s Day with Charlotte arriving the earliest.
