Craig Coleman picks his top 10 all time South Sydney Rabbitohs

CLUB legend Craig Coleman has picked his top ten South Sydney Rabbitohs of all time in the lead up to the Southern Courier announcing it’s reader-voted Greatest Rabbitohs of all time.

CLUB legend Craig Coleman has been picked by many in their top 10 greatest Rabbitohs of all time.

But who makes the 55-year-old’s list? With less than two weeks of voting to go in our search for the greatest Rabbitoh we asked the halfback for his top 10.

At No. 10 he has Nathan Merritt who had two spells at the Bunnies.

“I’ve known him since he was a boy, he was a great player,” Coleman said.

At nine is the first of two current players to make his 10: Greg Inglis.

No. 8 is John Sattler, who Coleman describes as one of his heroes.

No. 7 is the first of his own teammates to make the list — Mario Fenech.

“He was as tough as old boots. He’s the nicest guy in the world but once he got on the field he just wanted to win,” he said.

Les Davidson had an “aura” about him according to Coleman.

No. 6 is another of his teammates, Les Davidson.

“He was my favourite teammate, he had this aura about him. When you saw him in the dressing room before the game you knew everything was going to be OK.”

No. 5 is his highest placed current player: Sam Burgess.

“He would have made it into the great Rabbitohs teams. He would have been in the back row with Coote and McCarthy.”

Numbers four, three and two he describes as his heroes who he admired growing up.

They are John O’Neill, Ron Coote and Bob McCarthy respectively.

“I was very lucky to grow up watching them at the SCG and Redfern Oval. I couldn’t really split them,” he said.

“Number one picks itself — Clive Churchill.”
