BAYSIDE Council forgot to include 85 per cent of public submissions when deciding on shifting suburb boundaries to incorporate the multimillion-dollar Pagewood Green development.
Last month Bayside Council approved a request from Meriton to enable its 2233 apartments to be in Pagewood rather than Eastgardens. Councillors made the decision having been told only nine residents responded to a consultation — with four in favour, four against and one questioning the proposal.
However, the council has since admitted it didn’t include a further 52 submissions made through its Have Your Say portal.
Of those 52, only three were in support of the suburb change.
The inclusion of the forgotten submissions results in 51 against the proposal, seven in favour, with one asking for more information and two discounted as they were repeated.
The suburb change is viewed as controversial as Pagewood has higher property prices than Eastgardens. Meriton denies this is behind the request.
Bayside said the error was due to staff not being “fully aware of the contemporary engagement methods and processes”.
Bayside is expected for forge ahead with the suburb change.
