Randwick’s Clove Lane is often defined as fine dining but owner-chef Emile Avramides is steering his Clovelly Rd restaurant away from pretentious in favour of a welcoming experience akin to your family’s own dining room.
The attitude is relaxed but the seasonal menu which changes daily has the hallmarks of fine dining, offering modern bistro fare that is produce-driven and ethically-sourced with an emphasis on share plates.
“The idea was to open a neighbourhood restaurant but a really good one, we really want it to be an extension of your family dining room,” Avramides said of Clove Lane which celebrated its second birthday in June and has been ranked No. 74 on the delicious.100 list of the most mouth-watering restaurants in NSW.
Avramides (Cutler & Co, Maze) and head chef Michael Tran (London’s Hibiscus, The Bellevue) are delivering a spring menu with dishes like housemade gnocchi with swiss brown mushrooms and crisp guanciale and pasture-fed roast sirloin with tarragon and red wine.
The spatchcock is another favourite, covered with a honey cumin glaze and plated with both sweet corn and charred sweet corn puree.
