A driver has been charged over a horror crash involving a motorcycle at Randwick which left a former rugby league great suffering serious foot and leg injuries, including a compound fracture.
A Toyota Aurion was coming out of a driveway onto King St when it collided with a motorcycle, about 3pm on Sunday, being driven by former Eastern Suburbs Roosters star Ian Schubert, 63.
The female driver of the Toyota, 29, stopped after the crash and spoke with police.
She has since been charged with negligent driving after attending Maroubra Police Station on Monday night.
She was given conditional bail to appear at Waverley Local Court on Wednesday, October 16.
Schubert was due to undergo surgery on Monday following his injuries.
There were fears his foot may have to be amputated.
A NSW Ambulance spokeswoman said he suffered a compound fracture to his leg and an ankle injury in the crash and was taken to St Vincent’s Hospital in a serious but stable condition.
Schubert was man of the match in the Roosters’ grand final triumph in 1975.
Eastern Beaches police are investigating the events leading up to the crash and appeal to anyone who might have dash camera or security camera footage to come forward.
Anyone with information should contact Crime Stoppers on 1800 333 000.
