Justice John Robson told the Land and Environment Court hearing on Friday he approved Catholic Healthcare’s development application of 108 beds and 56 homes.
Catholic Healthcare’s plans consist of four buildings and an underground carpark for 93 vehicles.
However, nearby homeowners opposed the plans, saying the centre would look too big and bulky. They wanted a smaller design.
Randwick Council was the respondent in the court case, wanting more time to assess the $75 million plans.
A spokeswoman for Catholic Healthcare said it was pleased by the outcome.
The DA would enable the development of modern, integrated person-centred aged care for the residents of Maroubra and neighbouring areas, she said.
A spokeswoman for the council said it needed time to consider any appeal.
The aged care provider bought the site from the RSL in 2016. The site is zoned for private recreation, which can also allow aged care homes.
The venue is being run as a cafe and functions venue called M Club in the interim.
Resident Claire Bettington said locals hoped plaques and other bowling club items would be saved from the premises before demolition.
