Snakes, spiders on the move as warmer weather emerges but public warned not to try to catch them

Already an eight-year-old boy from Wattle Grove has been bitten by a snake and had to be rushed to Liverpool Hospital.
Liverpool Council snake catcher Richard Shearim is telling homeowners to take extra care.
“Snakes are attracted to homes and backyards where chooks, other birds and mice are kept,’’ Mr Shearim said.

Australian Veterinary Association’s spokesman Dr David Neck said snakes tend to be most active at the end of the day.
Snakes in garages are probably looking for mice or rats, Dr Neck said.
He is suggesting residents keep those spaces clean as snakes tend to be attracted by rodents and to rubbish under which to hide.

“Outside, keep a close eye for snakes in bushy areas or near water. It’s best to try and keep horses, cattle and sheep away from bushy areas if possible,” he said.
Dog owners should avoid snake-prone areas, particularly if walking their dog at the end of the day.
