History is writ large on the walls of Roselands shopping centre which celebrates its 50th anniversary this year.
As part of the centre’s celebrations, locals and visiting customers can share their memories of the landmark in photos or writing.
Opening in 1965, Roselands was the largest centre of its kind in Australasia, introducing for the first time all the features of destination shopping we now take for granted.
The centre incorporated a massive carpark, food courts, external landscaping and striking decor such as the Raindrop Fountain.
While the fountain no longer stands, it remains firmly embedded in the minds of customers who have fond memories of meeting at the grand structure.
Roselands marketing manager Marina Majeran said the centre continues to have a “magical place” in the heart of the community.
Responses to the campaign so far have been underpinned by a deep connection to the suburban stalwart, she said.
“The common thread is this absolute love of Roselands and how it sits so gracefully in the memories of the community,” she said.
“It was the first undercutter.
“It was in the midst of suburbia, it was the Grace Bros’ vision.”
A host of international celebrities and artists have also visited Roselands in the five decades since its opening, including Frank Sinatra, Dean Martin and the Bee Gees.

Customers can submit their memories of Roselands on its website and Facebook page as part of its Five Fabulous Decades digital campaign to win a $500 shopping spree.
With plans now being considered to ensure the centre’s longevity in the next 50 years, customers can also have their say about what they would like to see at Roselands in the future.
