Going a bit bonkers with the kids in isolation?
Us too, and while every day seems like a week with many meltdowns, tantrums (ours and theirs), fights, lost school books and more, there have been many flickers of fun, special moments and memorable experiences shared.
We’ve started saving anything that looks like it could be reused for craft, from toilet rolls to egg cartons and leaves.
In that vein, these are our favourite isolation boredom-busting DIY craft ideas:
TREASURE HUNT COLLAGE
You will need: Paper and craft glue.
Make a list of items to find in the garden, for example, a feather, leaf, flower, stick and clover. Send your kids off with a basket or container to gather their treasure, and add in a prize to the person who finds everything on the list.
If you live in an apartment, you can make treasure out of paper or items from your recycling bin and hide them in your home.
Afterwards, create a collage using your treasure.
BOX MONSTERS/ROBOTS
You will need: Empty boxes, paints, crayons/pencils, glue, and anything else on hand for decorating.
Decorate the box with paint, crayons or pencils then use your imagination to transform the box with egg cartons as ears or a nose, or decorate with glitter, pipe cleaner, or any offcuts you have lying around.
TOILET ROLL STAMPS
You will need: Toilet paper roll tubes, paint and paper.
Collect about five (or as many as you like) toilet paper roll tubes and mould them into shapes. We found circles, squares and love hearts the easiest.
Pour paint out onto a flat surface such as a plate or pieces of cardboard, then dip the toilet roll shapes into the paint and stamp onto paper.
