With the current COVID-19 situation causing us all to be a little on edge, there is no better time than the present to start taking steps to bolster your immune system.
While you may be quite familiar with the benefits of good old-fashioned vitamin C — and it is a great option to have for your healthcare arsenal — there are many other immune-boosting natural ingredients out there as well.
So as we make our way into the cooler months, why not try some of these:
ELDERBERRY
Elderberry has great immune-boosting power thanks to active ingredients like anthocyanins, a bioflavonoid that can soothe inflammation, irritation and help with an annoying cough.
Choose organic dried elderberries to make an infusion.
Steep one teaspoon per cup of boiled water for 3-5 minutes.
MANUKA HONEY
Native to both Australia and New Zealand, Manuka honey has unique properties that are not found in ordinary honey.
It is traditionally used as an antibacterial and is also great for cuts and scrapes as well as improving digestion.
Use it in the same way you use regular honey, such as drizzled in lemon and hot water.
OLIVE LEAF EXTRACT
Olive leaf extract is an immune-bolstering antioxidant.
The active ingredient is oleuropein, a polyphenol compound that is one of the most powerful antioxidants around.
Look for one that is Australian made and fresh-picked to ensure it is as close to nature as possible.
It is available in capsules or as an oil.
