Two men will face court today after allegedly assaulting a 65-year-old elderly man in Riverstone.

A police report said the man told them he was walking from the train station along Garfield Road East about 9pm on Tuesday, when he was punched in the face by another man.

A short time later, he was assaulted again by the same person, who this time was with a group of five people, including at least one woman.

The man was punched and kicked repeatedly and hit with a walking stick, sustaining a large gash to his forehead, as well as a cut lip and swelling.

Following inquiries, police attended a unit on Garfield Road, Riverstone and arrested two men, aged 18 and 28, and both were taken to Riverstone Police Station.

The 18-year-old man was charged with assault in company causing grievous bodily harm and common assault.

The 28-year-old man was charged with assault in company causing grievous bodily harm.

Both were refused bail and are due to appear at Blacktown Local Court today.

Investigations by police are continuing and witnesses to the incident are urged to come forward.
