THOUSANDS flocked to the Autumn Harvest at Rouse Hill House and Farm on Sunday, enjoying wonderful weather plus the wide variety of food stalls, craft and family entertainment on the sprawling estate.
The festival attracted more than 30 artisan and local producers who did a roaring trade.
Sydney Living Museum also conducted tours of the historic estate — home to the founders of Rouse Hill.
Farmer Lawrence showed off his impressive cows and other animals while Dave Ingham provided handy tips on care for backyard chickens.
For Simone Cassell of Cassell Coker & Co, it was a home coming of sorts as her fourth great-grandfather Thomas Cassell — who was sent from Britain to Sydney for pickpocketing in 1819 — began working for Richard Rouse as the overseer.
“I could see — almost smell — in the old store ledgers and wages books, the flour, the sugar, the mutton, the salt, the other life staples grandfather drew monthly for his family from the productive Rouse Hill Farm,” the Stanhope Gardens businesswoman said.
From bush honey, gourmet food, CWA Devonshire tea to farmhouse toasties, the festival had everything.
