THOUSANDS of players and supporters ranging from juniors to over 35s turned last weekend’s Blacktown District Soccer Football Association grand finals into their biggest season-ending event in years.
More than 100 teams representing 23 clubs competed during the finals at the Blacktown International Sports Park, Rooty Hill, from August 26-28.
Local teams from Rouse Hill, Stanhope Gardens, Quakers Hill, The Ponds, Glenwood, Riverstone, Parklea and Oakville were among those which took part in the extravaganza.
“It was bigger than last year and the sportsmanship shown by the teams was excellent,’ BDSFA CEO Jack Taylor said.
“The atmosphere at the grand finals is much better these days because we try and make it a happy day for everyone.
“We don’t call teams winners and losers during the presentation but instead call the teams by name and present the medals and trophies.”
Taylor said the formation of the new Sydney Hills Football Association hasn’t affected them but they did gain three to four teams from the Granville competition, which is also affiliated to Football NSW.
