HILLS United FC have rewritten the history books becoming the first football team from The Hills to advance to the round of 32 in the FFA Cup, setting up a potential match up with a A-League club.
The Hills thrashed Illawarra Premier League side Kemblawarra Dapto Fury FC 5-2, with their potent striker force hammering four goals in the opening half.
Coach Dan Sheppard’s men have also showed class in the PlayStation4 National Premier Leagues 2 NSW Men’s competition, running second this season.
The Brumbies are also contesting the Waratah Cup — hosted by Football NSW — taking on Blacktown City FC in the preliminary finals on Wednesday, June 14.
Greg Giovenali, Nikolas Dimitriadis, goal scoring sensation Peter Cejka and Nathan Rayner fired the Brumbies to a 4-0 lead at halftime at their home ground of Russell Reserve.
Victor Anymiba increased the tally before the Fury scored two late goals through Van Elia and Shane Murray.
The Brumbies will know about their next opponents after the June 29 draw, with club president Kazan Hadden saying the win was the most important in their 19-year history.
“This was our biggest game and it is significant that this is the first time a Hills side has advanced to this round in a national competition,” Hadden said.
“In the league too, we are punching well above our weight.
“The team is predominantly the same as last year and one of the reasons they are doing so well is because the new Hills Football Association and its members are so supportive.
“This in turn has provided so much more self belief in the Hills team.
“The next round in the FFA Cup will be very hard but exciting because we could get an A-League side like Sydney FC as our next opponents.”
Kazan said the Hills Football Association has grown from 7,000 members to more than 10,000 this season.
“Our club has turned the Russell Reserve into a true home ground with all our first grade players signing their names on the brick wall in our dressing room,” Kazan said.
“Before the season started, we all painted the fence and the clubhouse as we wanted to really own this club.”
