TWELVE new classrooms will be built at Riverstone High School to cope with the expected rise in enrolment.
Construction on the two-storey block is due to start later this year and be completed in mid-2020 giving Riverstone High School, founded in 1962, a much-needed uplift.
The co-educational Year 7-10 school at McCulloch St, Riverstone, is a member of the Nirimba Collegiate, with students having a pathway to Wyndham College, Quakers Hill.
Riverstone state Liberal MP Kevin Conolly said plans have been submitted to Blacktown Council for the new building.
The building will also feature a modern canteen and other amenities for staff and students.
Mr Conolly said a large new outdoor undercover area will be created beneath the new building that will nearly double the outdoor learning and play space at the school.
He said the upgrade is part of the NSW Government’s plan to meet growing enrolment demand across the local area.
“It is vitally important our local community has top-quality education resources for our students now and into the future and I’m pleased the NSW Government is delivering these resources” Mr Conolly said.
Education Minister Rob Stokes said nearly 30,000 new homes were expected to built in the area in the next 10 years with significant Government investment in the North West Rail link and Western Sydney Airport bringing more jobs, growth and an attractive lifestyle for Western Sydney families.
“It’s important that as this area grows, the local community reaps the benefits of that growth, and high quality education facilities are one of those important local benefits,” Mr Stokes said.
“This project will ensure local students have the school facilities and resources they need to succeed in the 21st century.”
