Groundbreaking plans proposing the construction of a series of residential buildings featuring more than 700 units in Schofields has been approved by a NSW Planning Panel.
The $181 million development application was submitted for 42 Junction Rd, Schofields in November, 2016, and was approved by the Sydney Central City Planning Panel on April 24.
The approved proposal earmarks the construction of eight, five-storey residential apartment buildings and a total of 883 carparking spaces across the entire development.
Four roads will also be constructed under the proposal.
Blacktown City Council raised concerns with the building heights proposed for the site and the lack of consistency the application has with the Riverstone Precinct Plans, however, the developer argued the proposal “complies with the majority of planning controls applicable to the site”.
“The proposal is consistent with the desired future character of the Riverstone growth precinct,” a representative of the developer said in the application.
“The building heights, although exceeding the numerical standards in parts, will still meet the
objectives of the standard.”
A Blacktown Council planning representative supported the approval of the development application, as the proposal was “in the public interest”.
“The proposed development has been assessed against all relevant mater and is considered to be satisfactory,” a council spokesman said.
