A LARGE abandoned property in Vineyard was completely destroyed in a fire on Thursday night, with fire fighting crews taking around three hours to douse the flames.

The captain of the Riverstone Fire & Rescue said they used water tankers to fully extinguish the large home on Wallace Rd, because sourcing water was one of their main problems.

“We were on the scene by 8.30pm and we had help from Fire & Rescue crews from Kellyville, Schofields, Windsor and the Oakville Rural Fire Brigade to extinguish the fire just before midnight,” he said.

“A water relay was established by firefighters from Oakville RFB of a distance of over 500 metres away and this was of significant aid to the operation,” the captain said.

Due to possible asbestos a decontamination area was established and police have since taken over the investigation.
