Nestle Golden Chef’s Hat Award winners are Giles Gabutina and Alessio Nogarotto

Most people would want to score an invite to Giles Gabutina’s dinner party.
Along with chef partner and close mate Alessio Nogarotto, the Stanhope Gardens resident has been crowned Australia’s best young chef in the Nestle Golden Chef’s Hat Award.
The culinary stars work at Bentley Restaurant and Bar in Sydney and secured $15,000 and a trip to the US after validating their talents in the culinary challenge for Australia’s finest young chefs.
The pair clinched silver for their entree and main course, and gold for dessert —
roasted and glazed pears with creme fraiche and citrus parfait, pear and burnt butter emulsion, toasted olive oil cake with a bitter citrus and fennel infusion.
“We weren't expecting to win at all — the competition was so strong and everyone was expecting amazing things,’’ Gabutina said.
“For us it’s an amazing feeling considering not a lot of young chefs are able to create dishes where they work.
“This is an opportunity to showcase what is great food and what we want to cook, essentially.’’
The four-week trip will start in New Orleans in April.
“I think it was broaden our perspective on food,’’ Gabutina said.
“It will just be cool — all the different styles of food in the US.
The Nestle Golden Chef’s Hat Award has run for 54 years and has helped the careers of more than 7000 talented young chefs since its inception.
