THE swish new train station at Kellyville in Sydney’s northwest will be 13 metres above the ground and feature Australia’s first platform screen doors to keep items like prams away from the edge while improving departure times.
Transport for NSW said the skytrain at Kellyville has been handed over to Northwest Rapid Transit, which will build the new station and lay new metro railway tracks.
The Kellyville and Rouse Hill stations are being built on the 4km skytrain between Bella Vista and Rouse Hill, which is stage one of the $8.3 billion Sydney Metro Northwest rail link project.
There will be 1,200 car spaces, four bus spaces; 10 kiss-and-ride and four taxi spaces in addition to parking and storage for 45 cycles.
According to Transport Minister Andrew Constance, the new station and the metro will be a game changer for local residents.
“This new station will provide rail access and a public transport interchange for people living in surrounding suburbs like Kellyville, Beaumont Hills and Stanhope Gardens,” Mr Constance said.
“Sydney Metro will change the way of life forever in the North West, delivering for the first time a reliable mass transit system for the region — we’re getting on with the job of building Sydney Metro as quickly as possible.
“This state-of-the-art metro station is being built 13m above ground on the skytrain, keeping the community connected below it.”
The metro northwest link includes stations at Cudgegong Rd (Rouse Hill), Rouse Hill, Kellyville, Bella Vista, Norwest, Showground, Castle Hill, Cherrybrook while the Sydney Metro Trains Facility will be based at Rouse Hill.
New access roads will be built and Samantha Riley Dr will be widened to accommodate additional turning lanes.
