A QUAKERS HILL student will once again fly the flag for Australia in an international pageant.
Madelaine Jones, 21, was crowned the inaugural Royal International Miss Australia for 2018 and will travel to Florida in July to compete for the global title.
Jones, who is studying to be a primary school teacher, will be one of six Australians travelling to the US to compete in categories of the Royal International Miss pageant.
Jones started entering pageants four years ago with the aim of using her profile to raise money for breast cancer.
“I really wanted a platform to allow myself to do so,” she said.
It has been a cause close to her heart following her mum’s breast cancer diagnosis in 2014.
Now in remission, Jones’ mum Robyn will accompany her to America for the pageant. Jones said pageants had given her the opportunity to fundraise more than $15,000 for various charities and causes.
Jones won her first national title in 2016 when she picked up the crown for Face of the Globe.
As part of her Royal International Miss Australia, she will fundraise for the Sydney Children’s Hospital Network and aims to raise at least $2000.
Jones said she enjoyed being an active member of her community and hoped to encourage other young people to volunteer.
“I just think it’s a really great thing to be an example and help people that need it,” she said.
