Alex Ave school: Construction begins on $54m primary school on Farmland Drive, Schofields

Construction has begun on a $54 million dollar primary school at Schofields to cater for Sydney’s booming north-western population.

The Alex Avenue public school is expected to be ready by the end of this year and is already taking enrolments for Term 1, 2021.

The new primary school was announced in April as part of 48 construction projects in NSW to have its planning assessments fast-tracked and finalised through the Planning System Acceleration Program, aimed at supporting the NSW economy following the COVID-19 pandemic.

Today Education Minister Sarah Mitchell and Riverstone MP Kevin Conolly celebrated the construction milestone with an official sod turn.

Mr Connolly said the school is being built using innovative construction methods.

“We are facing rapid population growth in this part of Sydney, and infrastructure innovation will play a key role in providing future permanent facilities in shorter time-frames, with less disruption to student learning and local residents,” he said.

“This school has been constructed in a factory setting and will be assembled in a matter of months.

“The first components will be delivered to the site by truck in the next few weeks.”

The school will feature 19 permanent classrooms,a school hall, a library, a covered outdoor learning area as well as a administrative and staff facilities.

It will have a capacity for 500 students and has been a master-planned to accommodate up to 1000 students in the future.

Mr Conolly said the NSW Government recognises Riverstone is a growth area.

“Most of the growth in Sydney is occurring in this western corridor,” he said.

“We have just finished an upgrade at Riverstone High School, we are nearing completing an upgrade of Schofields Public School, we just completed one at Quakers Hill East and one at Riverbank because of the population across the region.”
