A little Hills boy with special needs is in desperate need of a respite carer.
Stretch-A-Family are urgently looking for a caring individual or couple in the Dural area who are willing to become regular respite carers for the boy with special needs.
The organisation says Tommy is an “active, cheerful seven-year-old who loves riding his scooter and playing outdoors”.
“One of Tommy’s favourite outings is going to the park and he loves animals,” a statement from the organisation said.
“Tommy enjoys the sensory aspect of making mudpies and other messy play and can become engrossed for hours! Tommy also enjoys playing educational games on his iPad.
“He has some particular behavioural and developmental challenges and requires constant supervision around cars and motor vehicles.”
The ideal respite carer would have a caring professional background and knowledge of child development.
By providing occasional care to Tommy they would allow his long-term carers to have a regular much-needed break knowing Tommy is safe and settled.
Stretch-A-Family offer all carers initial and ongoing training, a case worker, 24-hour on-call support, as well as tax-free financial assistance.
Stretch-A-Family Permanency Support program manager Tony Jans said there are always a need for more foster carers in The Hills.
"Many people are unaware just how many children and young people need safe, loving homes across Sydney,” he said.
“Respite carers do an invaluable job supporting kids in long term placements, and become an important part of a child's community of support - just by opening their homes one weekend a month!”
