A popular Australian frozen yoghurt chain is preparing to open its first western Sydney store in Penrith.

Yo-Chi, a frozen yoghurt chain founded in Melbourne in 2012, has taken the nation by storm in recent years.

Customers either choose a bowl or cone and can choose to build their own creations from an array of self-serve frozen yoghurt machines offering numerous flavours, before proceeding to a toppings buffet where they can select anything from fresh fruits to lollies.

Overall prices are then determined by weight.

The new store, which is expected to open in Westfield’s Penrith Plaza on November 19 and replace frozen yoghurt shop Yogurbella, will be Yo-Chi’s ninth NSW store and the first in western Sydney.

Its other NSW locations include Surry Hills, Macquarie Park, Newtown, Lane Cove, Manly, Bondi, Double Bay and Coogee.

It will be followed by another new store, which is expected to open in Barangaroo just before Christmas.

The new Penrith venue will offer Yo-Chi’s signature flavours, including salted butterscotch, vanilla, chocolate and cookies and cream, as well as fan favourite acai. A rotation of seasonal flavours will also be released throughout the year.

The toppings bar will also include the classic selection of fresh fruit as well as cookie dough, melted biscoff and Japanese dessert mochi, with a series of limited edition toppings – known as “special chis” – rolling out regularly.

Yo-Chi chief operating officer Brooke Rodger said everyone at the company was “stoked to finally be opening in Penrith”, following a “direct response” to the area’s demand for the frozen yoghurt chain.

“This is a really exciting milestone for Yo-Chi,” she said.

“We’ve been looking for great sites in western Sydney for a while now.

“A lot of smaller locations have come up, but we wanted to hold out ’til we found a space big enough to allow people to get comfy, to come and hang out with family and friends.”

Ms Rodger said no two Yo-Chi venues were identical, and there were a few “special touches” in the Penrith store.

Thirteen new Yo-Chi locations have opened across Australia this year, while the company celebrated its 30th store opening in South Australia in June.

Ms Rodgers said the company was “actively looking” for other locations to open in western Sydney, particularly Parramatta.
