XS Espresso comes to Emu Hall

The signs are up and the plans for the new restaurant taking over Emu Hall are well underway.
The expansive site, which sits on more than 10,000 sqm, will house an XS Espresso cafe, bar, restaurant and beer garden for all-day dining.
The heritage-listed site. which was built in 1852, attracted the attention of Roky Gorgees who started the original XS Espresso cafe in Wetherill Park in 2015.
He noticed a large number of patrons coming to his cafes from Penrith and decided to take the concept to them.
“Emu Plains, especially beside the Nepean River, is such a community area for locals,” he said.
“Whether they come for a weekend river walk or have a picnic by the water, there is always a feeling of community in this area.
“We wanted to create a venue for the whole community to enjoy and there’s no better location in the Emu Plains/Penrith area.”
Once renovations are complete, the restaurant will become XS Espresso’s flagship venue.
“We don’t want to lose the heritage of the house at all, but still needed to create a space where you know you’re at XS,” Gorgees said.
“So we’ve kept most of the interior white, with pops of colour. You’ll also get gorgeous views of the Nepean River from the heritage house where people can really appreciate the location and be proud of their local waterfront venue.
“We wanted to bring the outside in with the design so we’ve chosen to use a lot of natural light by installing skylights throughout the entire venue.”
The cafe menu will match the existing XS Espressos, known for their indulgent desserts and epic shakes, while the space will also have a new, separate menu for the bar and kitchen.
“We wanted to create a relaxing space where people can always go to, no matter the occasion,” Gorgees said.
Gorgees said he is “considering hosting a wide range of events” including weddings and birthdays at the site.
