A new $80 million construction hub will be built at a western Sydney TAFE campus — providing specialised training for hundreds of tradesmen and women.
The Western Sydney Construction Hub — based out of the Kingswood TAFE Campus — will see students trained in carpentry, electrical, construction and plumbing.
Tertiary Education Minister Geoff Lee said the educational facility would train 700 students each year.
“As a dedicated centre of excellence for construction trades, the new facility will significantly enhance education and training in the region and showcase the best of what TAFE NSW has to offer in delivering world-class, practical training linked to jobs,” he said.
“As western Sydney is growing we need more tradespeople to come along — this is ideally located in western Sydney, one of the fastest growing regions in NSW.”
Mr Lee said the centre of excellence would address a critical shortage in tradespeople across NSW.
“We know our state needs a strong pipeline of skilled workers to meet the demand of our infrastructure boom, and that’s why we’re significantly investing in TAFE NSW,” he said.
Jobs Minister, Stuart Ayres said the new Western Sydney Construction Hub will make student “job-ready”.
“Expert teachers and on-site industry engagement, the Western Sydney Construction Hub will help to deliver the skilled workers needed for major construction projects such as the Western Sydney Airport and Aerotropolis, and the Sydney Metro Western Sydney Airport,” he said.
The multimillion-dollar development will be built on vacant land at the Kingswood Campus and is expected to open in 2023.
