A young boy is fighting for his life after a tragic Gold Coast helicopter crash as his western Sydney community mourns the loss of his mother, who has been described as an “absolute angel” and a “goddess”.
Glenmore Park woman Vanessa Tadros, 36, died instantly when the joy ride she and her 10-year-old son Nicholas were enjoying during a day out at Sea World theme park took a dark turn on Monday.
She was one of four people who died when the aircraft collided with another identical helicopter shortly after takeoff.
Sea World Helicopters chief pilot Ashley Jenkinson, 40, and British couple Ron, 65, and Diane Hughes, 57, holidaying in Australia after getting married in 2021 also died at the scene.
Nicholas is currently on life support at Gold Coast University Hospital after having four surgeries.
A cousin of his mother said Nicholas would be transferred from a Gold Coast hospital to the Queensland Children’s Hospital in Brisbane, following a successful five-hour surgery.
A teacher at Kazoku Martial Arts Academy in Minchinbury, where Nicholas is enrolled, said Ms Tadros was “an absolute angel” of a woman, with many ties to the community.
“She would do anything for the club and was always a pleasure to be around, may her soul rest in peace,” he said.
The teacher also said the school was praying for Nicholas’ recovery.
He said the young lad was “an absolute treasure to train” and had “come a long way” in his martial arts training.
Friend Tanya Perin described her friend and former client Vanessa as a “very popular woman” who was “bright, selfless and caring”.
“Vee was a goddess at her job, I will never forget how she went above and beyond for me and my family,” she said
Ms Perin contracted Ms Tadros as an event stylist for her wedding day and said the two became close friends thereafter.
“From our first consultation it felt like I knew Vee for what seemed like a lifetime,” she said.
“I gained a friend and I’ll forever cherish our planning memories and time together.”
Family friend Rochelle Fajloun has created a GoFundMe page to support Simon Tadros, the husband of Vanessa and father of Nicholas.
“We are praying for a miracle that our Nicky, (as he is playfully known) can be brought back to his grief stricken father Simon,” Ms Fajloun wrote.
“If by God’s grace Nicky survives his catastrophic injuries, he will have an intense and protracted recovery period. Please keep him in your prayers.
“Simon distressingly witnessed the accident unfold and is totally shattered.
“With all of the emotional pain that death brings, it can also bring significant financial burden.
“The proceeds from this fundraiser will be wholly distributed to Vanessa’s husband, Simon Tadros to aid with funeral and memorial costs, loss of income as Simon remains at Nicholas’ side whilst he clings to life and any medical expenses that may be needed.
“Any donations that can help the family during this difficult period will be most appreciated.”
The fundraiser has already raised more than $13,500.
