A GROUNDBREAKING plan to build 180,000 homes in Western Sydney has been cemented by a $15 million funding commitment by the State Government.

The scheme, which was handed down by NSW Treasurer Dominic Perrottet as part of the Western Sydney City Deal in the NSW Budget this week, will work to streamline masterplanning to deliver the 184,500 new homes needed in the next 20 years across Western Sydney.

A Spokeswoman for Western Sydney Minister Stuart Ayres clarified the scheme would see houses built in Penrith, Blue Mountains, Hawkesbury, Camden, Liverpool, Campbelltown, Fairfield and Wollondilly local government areas, but could not identify how many homes would be built Growth Area for the Greater Penrith to St Mary’s corridor — the main region identified in the Western Sydney City Deal planning and housing documents.

Mr Perrottet said the Western Sydney City Deal would transform the region, providing housing, jobs and recreational space.

The release of the NSW Budget also saw a $60 million cash cow from the State Government towards the $150 million Western Sydney Parkland City Liveability Program.

The program will work to deliver community infrastructure and public spaces that promote healthy, active lifestyles and support the arts and culture, according to Mr Perrottet.

While a major investment in skilled job creation saw the State Government set aside $59.5 million to construct a Western Sydney Centre of Innovation in Plant Sciences for a 1.4 million plant specimen bank.

Mr Perrottet also revealed plans to activate and link regional parklands, through a $5.9 million spend over the next year to “improve play and recreational areas, and restore and expand on bushland corridor”.

Penrith state Liberal MP and Western Sydney Minister Stuart Ayres said the Budget would drive growth, create jobs and enhance opportunities for more than two million people.

“This Budget matches a growing Western Sydney with the jobs, infrastructure and essential services required to continue to increase prosperity and opportunities for local residents,” he said.
