Police officers Nathan Black, Timothy John Trautsch face court after alleged assaulting, recording naked mentally ill woman

Two police officers allegedly assaulted a naked mentally ill woman during an incident in Sydney’s west, before one allegedly shared footage of the incident, a court has heard.

Two western Sydney police officers allegedly assaulted a naked mentally ill woman during a concern for welfare check, a court has heard. 

It’s alleged senior constables, Nathan Black, 26, and Timothy John Trautsch, 28, were called to Emu Plains with other emergency services after concern for welfare reports around 5.30 pm on January 22. 

Police alleged in court the pair assaulted the woman, 49, stomping on her face and pepper spraying her genitalia.

The woman, who remains unnamed for legal reasons, was believed to be suffering from a mental illness.

Black is alleged to have shared bodycam footage of the incident.

Black was charged with assault occasioning actual bodily harm in the company of other(s), possess or use a prohibited weapon without permit, intentionally publish protected information, intentionally record intimate image without consent, and intentionally distribute intimate image without consent.

Trautsch, from Narellan, was charged with assault occasioning actual bodily harm in the company of other(s).

Both Senior Constables were working in the Nepean Police Area Command.

Defence lawyer Paul James, representing both men, attended Penrith Local Court on Monday (May 1).

Black and Trautsch were excused from attending court on their next committal appearance on June 30.

The court heard Sean Croner, from the Director of Public Prosecutions have taken over the case from police prosecutors.
