Penrith RSL gets a deep cleaning after COVID scare

Penrith RSL Club has undergone a deep cleaning after being linked to the fresh outbreak of COVID-19 on the northern beaches.

A member of the band Nothing Too Serious has tested positive for the virus days after playing a gig at the RSL club on December 13, between 1pm and 6pm.

NSW Health has asked everyone at the club in that time period to get tested immediately and self-isolate until they receive a negative result.

Northern beaches residents have been advised to stay on the peninsula after 17 people tested positive to coronavirus on Thursday.

It has also been confirmed that the cluster which centres around Avalon RSL has been connected to an overseas case.

In a statement, Penrith RSL Club chief executive Neel Chand said the club received notification from NSW Health on Thursday.

“Contact tracing details were immediately provided to NSW Health,” he said.

“Anyone who visited this venue at the above time should get tested immediately and self-isolate until NSW Health provides further information.

“We are working closely with NSW Health, which has advised that we are able to continue trading.”

The club was shut on Thursday evening and reopened on Friday morning after a deep cleaning.

A number of staff who worked at the club on Sunday have also been tested and gone into isolate for two weeks.

“The club has been operating under a robust COVID-safe plan, which has gone above and beyond government requirements,” Mr Chand said.

“We will continue to work hard to maintain a safe environment for our members, guests and staff at Penrith RSL Club.”
