Northern beaches COVID: Palm Beach and Avalon alert as two new cases are identified

The northern beaches is on COVID alert after two people who visited a number of public facilities, cafes and a supermarket are confirmed to have the virus.

Residents on the northern beaches have been put on alert after two people who have been diagnosed with COVID visited a number of locations on the peninsula.

The source of these new infections is under investigation. At this stage, no links have been identified to other known cases.

The cases are a woman in her 60s and a man in his 70s who are close contacts of each other.

Contact tracing and urgent genome sequencing are underway, with genome sequencing results expected in the next 24 to 48 hours.

The cases visited a number of venues while infectious.

People who have attended the following venues are considered close contacts and should get tested and isolate for 14 days even if they receive a negative result.

Coast Palm Beach Café, Palm Beach – Sunday, 13 December 10-11am

Avalon Bowlo (bowling club), Avalon Beach – Sunday, 13 December, 3‑5pm

Everyone living on the northern beaches area should monitor for even the mildest of symptoms and come forward for testing immediately if they appear, then isolate until a negative result is received.

Testing clinics are located at Mona Vale Hospital, Gate 3 Coronation Street, Mona Vale – walk-in clinic – open 7.30am-5.30pm seven days a week

North Narrabeen Clinical Labs Pathology, 1416 Pittwater Rd, Narrabeen – drive-through clinic – open 10am-2pm Monday-Friday.

There are more than 300 COVID-19 testing locations across NSW, many of which are open seven days a week.

These latest cases, and the case from southwestern Sydney announced this morning, will be included in the numbers reported on Thursday morning.
