Penrith eateries named and shamed by food authority

Almost 20 food businesses across Penrith City were recently listed in NSW Food Authority’s Name and Shame Register. Read the full list here.

Egg recall due to salmonella concerns

The NSW Food Authority has named and shamed about 20 businesses across Penrith City.

The authority’s Name and Shame Register list included 17 businesses in the Penrith Local Government Area given infringement notices in the past 12 months.

Westside Grill in St Marys and Pacific Green Grocery in St Clair were the biggest offenders, each receiving four infringement notices.

In total 35 infringements were issued to local businesses in the past year, each resulting in an $880 fine and totalling more than $32,000.

The most common breaches were failing to store food in the correct manner and failing to take the appropriate measures to keep out pests.

Penrith Valley Inn was one of 22 businesses across the state to have a penalty which resulted in a food offence prosecution

According to the report on January 25, 2017 a customer at the hotel ordered a butter chicken meal that was described as not containing any nuts.

The meal did contain cashew nuts and the customer later suffered a severe anaphylactic reaction.

The catering company responsible for supplying the food, Ayva Catering, was charged with selling food that the person ought reasonably to know is falsely described and is likely to cause physical harm to a consumer, and supplying food by way of sale that was not of the nature demanded by the purchaser.

The matter was heard in Penrith Court on September 13, 2018, where Ayva Catering was convicted of both charges and fined a total of $15,000 after court costs.

The Penrith Valley Inn was not charged.
