The community has rallied behind its emergency services in the wake of Wednesday night’s tragic shooting.
With all the attention on the gunman who was shot dead by police in a stand-off outside Penrith Police Station, the Penrith community has shown its support to all the emergency services personnel who responded to the incident.
Over the past two days businesses have been offering free deals to members of the police, ambulance and fire and rescue services.
The Refined Cut Barbershop in Penrith is offering free haircuts to members of the NSW Police Force. Owners Joshua Hodson and Nigel Bouche said the offer is the businesses way of expressing appreciation to the men and women who put their lives on the line each day.
“At The Refined Cut, we strongly believe that people will forget what we say and do, but never how we have made them feel,” Mr Hodson said.
“So as a small token of our appreciation and gratitude for the selfless and often thankless work of the officers attached to the Nepean Police Area Command, we have offered free haircuts to all sworn members of the New South Wales Police Force on Thursday, Friday and Saturday.”
Food businesses such as Burger Head and San Churro also offered free food to emergency service personnel.
Penrith Council and local politicians have also sent their gratitude to the police force.
A council spokesperson said the response from the community in the last two days shows the true spirit of Penrith.
“Penrith as a community always pulls together in difficult times and this spirit has been evident in the events of the last 48 hours,” the spokesperson said.
“We are a resilient and proud community, having each other’s back and standing together in solidarity is in our DNA.
“Despite the traumatic events we’ve experienced this week, it is always heartening to see how supportive and strong the people of Penrith are.”
Penrith state Liberal MP Stuart Ayres and Lindsay federal Liberal MP Melissa McIntosh have also released statements thanking the police and sending well wishes to those injured officers.
