A Penrith pizzeria that has been fined five times in the last 18 months is just one of the 17 eateries in Penrith and the Blue Mountains that have been slapped with breaches of food safety laws.
Park4Pizza on Caloola Ave, Penrith, was hit with two fines in May last year before another three fines in April.
Penrith Council fined the pizzeria $440 for failing to supply warm water, soap, and single-use towels at its handwashing stations and $440 for failing to maintain the premises to the required standard of cleanliness on May 28 last year after an inspection on February 27.
The pizzeria was fined again on April 27 for three offences relating to an inspection on January 17.
They were fined $440 for failing to take all practicable measures to eradicate and prevent the harbourage of pests, $440 for failing to maintain all fixtures, fittings, and equipment to the required standard of cleanliness, and $440 for a second offence of failing to maintain the premises to the required standard of cleanliness.
Thai Square Springwood was the most fined eatery in the Blue Mountains, copping three after an inspection by the Blue Mountains Council on March 18 this year.
Thai Square Corporations was slapped with $880 fines for failing to supply soap and single-use towels at each handwashing facility, failing to take all practicable measures to eradicate and prevent the harbourage of pests with previous warnings given, and failing to maintain the premises to the required standard of cleanliness with previous warnings given on March 20.
A spokesperson for Penrith Council said more than 1200 inspections were carried out each year on more than 900 food businesses in the area.
“A risk-based approach to compliance and enforcement activites has been implemented by the council through the adoption of a gradual and proportionate response to non-compliance,” they said.
“This approach includes the application of lesser enforcement tools to businesses in the first instance, followed by more severe tools should the business continue the non-compliant activity.
“Depending on the complexity of the breach observed, penalty notices are generally issued within a couple of weeks of the breach being observed.”
