Orchard Hills resident Fred Frendo owns some of the best show pigeons in NSW — the attractive birds scored nine awards at the 2015 Easter Show pigeon competition.
“This year at the Pigeon Fanciers Society’s 100th year anniversary show in Farifield, one of my pigeons won the best bird of the show title to come out on top of 1700 other pigeons,” Mr Frendo said.
“The show was judged by two international judges.
“At the moment I don’t have any shows to enter because it’s the breeding season.’’
Mr Frendon has 70 adult pigeons and about 30 squeakers who are on their way to grabbing awards in the future.
Mr Frendo started raising pigeons at age 14 after he discovered they could find their own way back home from hundreds of kilometres away.
He noticed his neighbour’s racing pigeons coming back home and thought it was amazing.
When Mr Frendo started with pigeons he did not race them because he found it too expensive to enter them in races so he raised them for show instead.
