Nicholas Parker yet to enter pleas in court

A young driver who police allege hit and killed two cyclists in his Hyundai i30 late last year will face further delays in court.

A young driver who police allege was behind the wheel of a car during a crash that killed two cyclists in the Hawkesbury last December faces another eight-week wait for a trial date.

Nicholas James Parker, 20, of Grose Vale, appeared at Penrith Local Court for a brief mention of five charges stemming from the crash on December 19 last year that left Chris Culver, 40, and Geoff Havill, 49, dead.

Police allege the two men were riding along Kurrajong Rd, north west of Sydney, just before 5am when they were allegedly struck head-on by a Hyundai i30 with Parker at the wheel.

Mr Havill died at the scene and Mr Culver was flown to Westmead Hospital with critical injuries. He died later that evening.

Two days later Parker was charged with two counts of dangerous driving occasioning death, one count of negligent driving occasioning death and another of not keeping left of the dividing line.

Police allege the teen was driving dangerously and negligently at the time of the crash.

Parker first appeared in Windsor Local Court on February 5 before his matter was moved to Penrith after the DPP elected.

He’s been on bail since the alleged incident, and is yet to enter pleas.

In court on Friday, Magistrate Geoff Hiatt heard the charges had been certified, but a case conference was yet to occur.

Magistrate Hiatt adjourned the matter to November 27 for committal to the District Court for either sentencing or trial pending a plea.
