A proposed aged care development has the potential to fill a major service gap in Jordan Springs.

Catholic Healthcare has announced plans to build a new 144 bed residential aged care facility in Jordan Springs. The facility will be located in the CBD area, on the corner of Jordan Springs Boulevard and Lakeside Parade.

General Manager for Property, Michael Lockwood, said there is a need for aged care in the Penrith area and this unique opportunity can fill that gap.

“We are looking to build a service in Jordan Springs, which is an unique opportunity for us because it is close to the town centre and you don’t often get that opportunity,” Mr Lockwood said.

“There is a lot of published aged care need in the Penrith and Greater western Sydney area, so we are responding to that with this proposal.”

With plans already designed it is expected the home will include a mixture of residential accommodation and clinical rooms, as well as recreational spaces. Some of the features will include a chapel, activity rooms, a wellness centre and cafe.

Preliminary meetings have already taken place between project managers and council, with a development application expected to be lodged in the next two months.

Mr Lockwood said it is an exciting time for both the company and the Jordan Springs and Penrith regions.

“It is very exciting for us because we have one existing service in Kemps Creek and it is important for us to keep growing our services.

“Jordan Springs is a growth area which is wonderful and close to services, which will benefit the community around us as well.”

With the DA expected to be lodged shortly, Catholic Healthcare hope to begin construction at the site in late 2020. Mr Lockwood said he expects the project to cost somewhere between $40-50 million.
